Universal Debug Engine now also supports Renesas' powertrain microcontroller series SH725x

(20. February 2009) Support for Renesas' SH725x powertrain microcontroller (MCU) series is presented by pls Programmierbare Logik & Systeme with the Universal Debug Engine (UDE) 2.6 in Hall 10, Stand 215 at embedded world 2009. The UDE 2.6 is a comfortable software and hardware tool for the development, test and service of SH725x-based MCU applications.

SH725x incorporates an SH-2A CPU core clocked at up to 200 MHz, up to 3.8 Mbytes of flash memory, maximum of 256 Kbytes RAM and powerful peripheral functions such as CAN, Advanced Timer Unit, DMA controller, serial interfaces and more make the device ideal for demanding powertrain applications.

The intuitive and configurable user interface of the UDE 2.6 offers SH725x users, among other things, unrestricted C/C++ support, a powerful symbol browser, freely configurable toolbars, extensive contextual menus and HTML as description language for application-specific windows. Furthermore, by using standard script language a high degree of automation is guaranteed. All on-chip debug capabilities of the controller, including the maximum ten code breakpoints and two data breakpoints, are usable at a high level of abstraction inside the debugger.

An additional advantage offered by the UDE 2.6 is the high transfer speeds. In combination with pls' Universal Access Device 2 (UAD2), download rates of greater than 1.5 Mbytes/s can be achieved via the JTAG interface. This not only guarantees SH725x users a fast flash programming, but also short turnaround times during the development and real-time data visualization via the JTAG-based debug port.
