Universal Access Device 2 (UAD2)

UAD2 enables extremely rapid access to 16 and 32-bit microcontroller systems - Download rates up to 2.5MByte/s

UAD 2 Lauta, February 2005 - With a powerful 32-bit Communication Unit based Universal Access Device 2 (UAD2), pls Programmierbare Logik & Systeme presents an extremely rapid and flexible communication tool to access a multitude of popular 16-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers at the Embedded World 2005 in Hall 10, Stand 10-308. The unique combination of JTAG and CAN bus, measurements of a mere 13 x 8 x 3cm, and a robust aluminum housing, predestine the UAD2 for mobile use in the field.

To achieve an optimal use of the modular software architecture in the Universal Debug Engine (also developed by pls), the connection from the UAD2 to the host PC is realized using the widespread USB 2.0 interface at 480Mbps. With reduced efficiency, USB 1.1 connections can also be used. Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, and XP are supported.

Concerning the connection to the target system, the user can also choose between several options. For Infineon and ARM-derivative controllers using the corresponding connecting leads, a hardware implemented high-speed JTAG bus is available. This interface permits transfer rates up to 2.5MByte/s.

An equally provided D-sub connector in the UAD2 permits automatic configuration, depending on the usage, as a 1 Mbps CAN bus (pin-out corresponds to "CAN in Automation") or as an asynchronous RS232, respectively synchronous/ asynchronous RS485 interface. Bootstrap loaders, both serial and adapted to the target system, are also supported. By using the target controller, an extremely fast programming of internal and external FLASH memory is possible over all interfaces.

The UAD2 even allows the continuous recording and transmission of messages over the CAN bus during a test process. When performing service needs in the field or also during the development, a CAN service monitor can be linked with the application on the target system. This way, the debugger is able to maintain a connection with the microcontroller even during normal operation.

A ground connector enables a common voltage reference between the target system and the UAD2. Because the supply input tolerates unregulated DC voltages from 7V to 25V, the development system is well suited for use in motor vehicles.

The UAD2, as well as the Universal Debug Engine, supports all Infineon TriCore derivatives, the SAB C16x family, the C166CBC/SV2 components, and the ST10 microcontroller family, in addition to the ARM7 and ARM9 versions.
