RTI StethoScope available for pls GmbH Universal Debug Engine to benefit Embedded Applications

Nuremberg, February 2004 - Real-Time Innovations (RTI) and pls GmbH jointly announce the immediate availability of StethoScope for the Universal Debug Engine (UDE), available worldwide through PLS.

"The Universal Debug Engine and StethoScope blend essential hardware debug features with sophisticated software analysis capability," said Pauline Shulman, Sr. Product Manager at RTI. "This is a powerful development workbench that offers developers a very convenient and cost-efficient way to test, tune and debug their applications."

StethoScope is the unique real-time graphical data monitoring tool that allows developers to analyze a real-time application while it is running. Used by thousands of embedded system engineers, StethoScope provides oscilloscope-like capabilities to visualize any variable or memory location, watch any set of variables, see peak values and glitches, and trigger collection on specific events - a live analysis without stopping or slowing a running application.

The Universal Debug Engine offers emulator-like debug functionality including hardware breakpoints, hardware triggers and trace features, and enables extremely rapid debug cycles on resource-limited target boards, based on ARM, ST Microelectronics or Infineon 16/32 bit micro controllers. This newly available fully integrated solution connects the host development platform via a parallel, USB or FireWire connection to the UDE. The Universal Debug Engine is connected to the target board by means of a JTAG or on-chip debug monitor, thus providing fast and flexible access to the embedded system. Implemented in both the development and the production stages, the UDE helps application developers work effectively and with precision, from the debug phases through deployment. User applications can be found across a broad range of market sectors, including automotive, avionics, medical, industrial and consumer.

"We are very pleased to be able to deliver a fully-integrated and feature-rich debug environment to our customers," said Thomas Bauch, President of PLS GmbH. "For the first time, embedded developers can monitor, collect and alter data signals on-the-fly, in their deeply embedded applications."

StethoScope for UDE is available today through PLS for PC based development environments running Windows 2000/NT/XP.
