Universal Debug Engine now supports VaST's Virtual Processor Models and Tools
(15. September 2009) pls Programmierbare Logik & Systeme GmbH and the US company VaST Systems have established a cooperation with the goal to further simplify the simulation of automotive software applications by interfacing their products.
"By interfacing pls' Universal Debug Engine (UDE) with VaST's virtual processor models, developers can use pls' UDE with virtual prototypes for the simulation and test of automotive software applications. As a result, software development and validation can be started significantly earlier, before the availability of hardware, resulting in significant reductions in the overall design schedule" explains Jeff Roane, vice president of marketing at VaST.
VaST's virtualization solutions are regarded as some of the world's most efficient tools for creating and simulating virtual prototypes-high-speed, cycle-accurate simulation models of electronic systems and System On Chips. Developers use VaST tools to create and simulate virtual prototypes for application software development and to perform precise architecture performance analysis. The ability to run real software applications at near real-time speeds before hardware availability can often reduce time-to-market by eight months or more.
The UDE is one of the most versatile and at the same time most comfortable tools for the development, test and maintenance of complex microcontroller applications. The intuitive and configurable user interface of the UDE offers users, among other things, unrestricted C/C++ support, a powerful symbol browser, freely configurable toolbars, extensive contextual menus and HTML as description language for application-specific windows. Furthermore, a high degree of automation is ensured by using standard script languages."
The coupling of the pls UDE and VaST tools also reduces test times on the real hardware as the joint solution allows more detailed analysis of timing behavior and performance of an embedded application at a very early phase of system design. This prevents downstream errors that cause redesigns and significantly reduces development cost and schedule," said Heiko Riessland product marketing manager of pls.
