Universal Debug Engine now available also for Freescale’s i.MX25 family of multimedia applications processors

(23. June 2009) Universal Debug Engine (UDE) - which is available for a variety of different ARM7 and ARM9 derivates - is now used also for Freescale’s ARM926EJ-S core based i.MX25 family of multimedia applications processors.

The intuitive and configurable user interface of the UDE provides i.MX25 users with unrestricted C/C++ support, a powerful symbol browser, freely configurable toolbars, extensive context related menus and HTML as description language for application-specific windows. In addition, the use of standard script languages guarantees a high level of automation.

The powerful peripheral modules of these system-on-chip devices can be visualized and configured in the debugger at the symbolic level in text form. The CAN bus can be monitored and stimulated for tests with the integrated CAN recorder. In addition, programming of external NAND flash devices is also supported.

Furthermore, the Universal Debug Engine enables kernel and application debugging in parallel through one user interface when using Embedded Linux. Connection to the i.MX25 device takes place via the standard JTAG interface. In combination with pls’ Universal Access Device 2 (UAD2), download rates of greater than 1.0 Mbytes/s can be achieved via the JTAG interface. This not only guarantees developers of i.MX25 based multimedia applications a fast flash programming, but also short turnaround times.
