UDE 2.2.2 simplifies start for designers in the XE166 world

The success story of the legendary C166 architecture lives on in the XE166 real-time signal controller family. An operating frequency of up to 80 MHz, a minimal instruction execution time of 12.5 ns, currently with up to 768 Kbytes of on-chip FLASH memory and 82 Kbytes of on-chip RAM as well as an interrupt latency of less than 100 ns, make the XE166 family an ideal choice for demanding applications in sectors such as: renewable energy, drive technology, industrial automation, power supplies and medical equipment.

In parallel with their real-time ability, the devices particularly distinguish themselves with their diversity of integrated interfaces and peripheral units. Special highlights are: the high-performance PWM units, particularly powerful and synchronizable analog to digital converters and a MultiCAN port with up to six independent CAN nodes as well as eight configurable universal serial interfaces (USICs).

Both the UDE 2.2.2 and also pls' UAD2 units support the internal debug resources and peripheral units of the new XE166 real-time signal controllers without any restrictions. The integrated FLASH/OTP programming function of the UDE guarantees maximal high speeds in the entire cycle: delete/download/program/verify. By the way, this is not only valid in the interaction with the on-chip FLASH, but also with all other usual external devices. JTAG, CAN bus, and serial interface are optionally available to the user as communications channel to the target.

The DSP features of the new real-time signal controller generation are supported by the diverse possibilities of the graphical presentation of variables and their calculation to measurement values in real-time. Despite a minimal sampling period of 1 msec, the system behavior is hardly affected because the debug interface of the controller, together with a UAD2, allows reading and processing of the information during runtime.

The combination of a hardware implemented JTAG bus controller and a CAN bus in a single unit is also unique with the UAD2. The JTAG controller enables data transfer rates of up to 1.5 Mbytes/s at 20 MHz JTAG clock while another independent intelligent subsystem is available for a continuous recording of all messages on a CAN bus. This works even if the unit is used primarily for the communication with a microcontroller system. For test purposes, CAN messages can also be sent. In addition, within the debugger an interpretation of the recorded CAN bus, compliant with the CANopen standard, is allowed. For the connection to the host PC, users can freely choose between USB 2.0, IEEE 1394 (FireWire?) and 100 MBit Ethernet.

Both the Universal Debug Engine 2.2.2 and also the UAD2 units are available immediately.
