SPS/IPC/Drives 2007: HighTec and pls Present New Complete Tool Chain for TriCore Derivatives and Powerful TC1796 Starter Kit Lauta / Saarbruecken, Germany - October, 2007 - HighTec EDV-Systeme and pls Programmierbare Logik & Systeme present for the first time at SPS/IPC/Drives 2007, Nuremberg, Germany, November 27-29, 2007 in Hall 7a, Stand 608 (HighTec) and Hall 8, Stand 310 (pls) an innovative complete development environment for Infineon's TriCore microcontroller family and the comfortable TC1796 Starter Kit "EasyRunTC1796". Essential component parts of the "Tricore System Development Platform (TSDP)", which was designed particularly for industrial applications, are the Code::Blocks IDE and the already established platform independent TriCore compiler system, based on GNU technology, from HighTec. Access to special functions of the TriCore controller can be realized direct from the high-level language. An additional component of the TSDP is the PXROS-HR, a special version of the real-time operating system, also developed by HighTec. Together with the memory protection registers of the TriCore microcontroller, this offers a hardware based memory protection. The, as yet unique solution on the market, guarantees a secure function integration of software components and is ideally suited especially for security- critical applications and rugged industrial solutions. The TriCore user packet is rounded off with additional useful tools for development and test, such as the software oscilloscope PXosci. For debugging and test of the applications, the TriCore System Development Platform includes a direct connection to the Universal Debug Engine (UDE) from pls. Thereby, the UDE can be started with all necessary settings direct from Code::Blocks, thus greatly simplifying a function test of the program on the target hardware. The UDE, of course, also allows testing of PXROS-HR applications with memory protection. Furthermore, a library, especially developed for the PXROS debug monitor PXmon, allows the Universal Debug Engine to use the JTAG debug channel as fast communications vehicle for the exchange of data with a running PXROS-HR application. System conditions such as the stack consumption of individual tasks, the process sequence of tasks, the processor workload due to individual application parts as well as the workload of resources are graphically displayed. The user is thus provided with an effective tool to test PXROS-HR based programs and to optimize the performance parameters of the application. With the UDE from pls, a program trace up to the highest system frequency is possible, whereby up to 1 mega samples can be recorded. A so-called Universal Access Device (UAD2 or UAD2+) serves as communications unit to the target system. Hereby, is the unique combination of a hardware implemented JTAG bus controller and a CAN bus in one single unit. The JTAG controller allows data transfer rates up to 3.5 Mbytes/sec and an additional independent intelligent subsystem enables the continuous record of all messages on the CAN bus. The complete new tool chain can be evaluated with the TC1796 Starter Kit "EasyRunTC1796", which will also be presented for the first time at SPS/IPC/Drives 2007. Apart from the already mentioned and for the starter kit somewhat limited performance software components, it contains a new TC1796 evaluation board, which impressively demonstrates the performance capability of the TriCore architecture with its hardware and firmware. In addition to the TC1796 microcontroller, integrated on the board are: 1 Mbyte magnetic RAM memory with 35 ns access time, Ethernet, USB 2.0 and mircro SD card interfaces as well as additional interfaces such as LIN, CAN, configurable I/O pins, GPTAs and A/D channels. JTAG and OCDS Level 2 for program trace are designated as debug interfaces. An additional special highlight is the PXROS-HR based firmware of the board in flash: features such as task with TCP/IP communication, task for read and write to SD cards, task for CAN communication, task for control of port pins, frequency measurement etc. are provided as application programming interface (API) to the user. By means of the use of this API, the user can design his own software components and load and debug in the basic system. This approach allows a simple startup and evaluation of the application without having to understand every detail of the high-performance TriCore architecture. ### HighTec EDV-Syteme GmbH HighTec EDV-Systeme GmbH, founded in 1982, is a designer and supplier of high-performance tools and products for the development of embedded systems.
